Does Guardio work on Mac?

Yes — Guardio works on macOS as a lightweight browser extension. It's supported on macOS 11 Big Sur and later, and integrates with Safari, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. If you've seen a message that Guardio (or "Guardian browser") isn't supported on Mac, it almost always comes down to an outdated browser, an old macOS version, or an incomplete install.

macOS Compatibility Checklist

  • macOS 11 Big Sur or newer (Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma, Sequoia all supported).
  • Safari 14+, Chrome 90+, or Firefox 88+ — update from the browser's About menu.
  • At least 200 MB of free disk space and an active internet connection.
  • Admin access to install browser extensions (required on managed devices).

Install Guardio on Mac (by Browser)

Safari

Open the Mac App Store, search for the Guardio Safari Extension, and install. Then go to Safari → Settings → Extensions and enable Guardio. Grant the requested permissions when prompted.

Google Chrome

Visit guard.io in Chrome, click Add to Chrome, and confirm Add Extension. Pin the Guardio icon from the puzzle-piece menu so you can see scan status at a glance.

Mozilla Firefox

Open Firefox, go to guard.io, click Add to Firefox, and confirm. Firefox will request site permissions — accept them so Guardio can block phishing and malicious downloads.

Common Issues & Fixes

  1. 1

"Guardio is not supported on this browser"

Update the browser to the latest version, then reinstall the extension. On Safari, also update macOS — Safari ships with the OS.

  2. 2

    Extension installs but doesn't load

Open the browser's Extensions panel, toggle Guardio off and on, then restart the browser. If the toggle is greyed out, your device may be managed — ask your admin to allow the extension.

  3. 3

Guardio icon missing from the toolbar

In Chrome and Firefox, pin it from the extensions / puzzle-piece menu. In Safari, enable it under Settings → Extensions.

  4. 4

    Sign-in loops or blank dashboard

Clear cookies for guard.io, disable conflicting ad/privacy extensions temporarily, and sign in again. If it keeps looping, call us — we can verify the account on our side.

  5. 5

    Slow browsing after install

Disable other security extensions running in parallel (multiple scanners conflict). Restart the browser and re-test.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Mac say Guardio is not supported?

Usually an outdated macOS or browser. Update both, restart, and reinstall the extension. If the message persists, call 888-271-0352.

Does Guardio work on M1, M2, and M3 Macs?

Yes — Guardio runs natively on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel Macs.

Is there a Guardio app for Mac, or only an extension?

Guardio is browser-based on Mac — there is no standalone .app to install. Adding the extension is the supported install path.
